Job Description

AKM is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our team in Irvine California. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a wide range of civil engineering design projects in potable water, recycled water, wastewater, and stormwater/storm drain systems, ensuring their successful completion while adhering to industry standards, regulations, and client requirements. Your expertise will contribute to the development of infrastructure projects that positively impact the communities we serve.

Typical responsibilities will include the following:

  1. Lead and manage the design, planning, and execution of engineering projects, including site development, grading, drainage, utility systems, and roadways.
  2. Provide technical expertise and guidance to a team of engineers and designers throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Conduct thorough site investigations and surveys to assess existing conditions, analyze data, and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  4. Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, and construction plans using relevant software and tools.
  5. Review and approve project deliverables, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards.
  6. Collaborate with the client, sub-consultants, vendors, manufacturers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective project coordination and seamless execution.
  7. Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and project scheduling to support project proposals and client presentations.
  8. Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate potential risks, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  9. Participate in the selection and evaluation of materials, equipment, and vendors to achieve project objectives.
  10. Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and documentation to clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  11. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancements, and best practices to continuously enhance technical knowledge and improve project outcomes.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  2. Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.
  3. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
  4. Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  5. Proficiency in relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering analysis tools.
  6. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage budgets, and meet deadlines.
  7. Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to develop innovative engineering solutions.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interact with clients and stakeholders.
  9. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  10. Experience working on projects in Southern California and familiarity with local agencies and permitting processes is preferred.
  11. Knowledge of sustainable design practices and familiarity with LEED certification is a plus.
